Lime mortar pointing

Lime mortar is more flexible, breathable and softer than cement mortar, therefore helping maintain the fabric of our historic built environment. It is also more eco-friendly, with a lower carbon footprint than cement.

We undertake many lime mortar pointing projects and have extensive experience in choosing the correct lime mortar for the job. We can carry out mortar analysis in order to achieve as close a match as possible to an existing, historic lime mortar. We believe that throughout a project, a sympathetic approach to the history and fabric of the structure is key, in order to consolidate and preserve as much of the original historic material as possible.

Our lime mortar pointing services include rubble stone and ashlar stone repointing. We have experience in repointing entire houses and barns, churches, follies, stonewalls and other stone structures as well as iconic historic structures such as Glastonbury Abbey and Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The finished surface of the pointing is designed to shed water and display the aggregates within the mortar mix.
